Children's Bureau to Participate in CDC Grant to Prevent Child Abuse

The Children's Bureau was invited to partner with Tulane University's School of Public Health and the City of New Orleans Health Department to take part in a federal research grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to test the effectiveness of two interventions, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and Play Nicely, in promoting effective parenting and reducing the risk of child abuse in the community.

With funding from the grant, a Children's Bureau clinician specially trained in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) will be delivering this intervention in two Orleans Parish WIC clinics, located in New Orleans East and Algiers, over the next three years.   If successful, this research has the potential to make a significant contribution to scientific knowledge about whether brief, lower cost parenting interventions can reduce child maltreatment and improve child outcomes.
